It was hard finding songs for the community service aim because today's mainstream music is infiltrated with pleasure, sex, drugs, and the pursuit of money. It was very easy to find songs regarding the pleasure aim. I had to dig deep for community service songs, especially since we couldn't use the same songs. Even though one of the Four Aims of Hinduism is pleasure, pleasure seeking activities are supposed to follow basic laws of morality. One is also supposed to seek pleasure intelligently. These songs, obviously, don’t seek pleasure in this manner; in fact some of them can be described as self-destructive activities. The Four Aims are supposed to be followed in a logical progression, but these songs promote pleasure seeking activities as a lifestyle, instead of an activity. Regarding community service, the songs I chose seem to highlight issues prevalent in society and offer some solutions but they don’t offer long term solutions.

  1. I agree that today's society is filled with sex, drugs, etc. Pleasure is a big topic in America because we're an individualistic society. Also, I love your song choice,"If I Ruled The World" for your community service aim.

  2. I agree completely. I totally forgot about the money seeking aspect that could be seen as Pleasure. I like that you pointed that out.

  3. I completely agree with you that pleasure is supposed to follow the guidelines of the Hindu aim. All four Hindu aims are seeking for an ultimate better life and are to be done to balance oneself. I agree with you that with the pleasure aim people become so obsessed that it ultimately becomes their lifestyle instead of weaving all aims in their lives.

  4. There are many ways people can find pleasure that is positive, however it is rather sad that when American society think about pleasure, the first thing that comes to mind without any time to think is sex. Majority of the people in this country demeanor is about getting their own instead of trying to uplift people and giving them a helping hand when needed. But, for people to see this happen it must start with the individuals who have the higher power in society.

  5. Money on My Mind was a wonderful choice of a song. Just like me and the other blogs I had viewed only picked songs that dealt with sex for their pleasure song. The two things that are encourage the most in our society is sex and getting money to have happiness. Glad you brought that back to my attention.

  6. What i like about your post is that you included drugs and the pursuit of money in your pleasure aim. I also appreciate that you expressed the difference between the pleasure in the U.S. and the pleasure seeked by followers of Hinduism.
